As I noted earlier, I still use a D100 which has been fault free for 12 yrs.

It is dated in some ways, but is still a fine camera.

One weak point for your intended use could be the rather loose card compartment door but you could probably improvise a solution.

Yeah, I'll probably have to address the D100 card compartment door issue.  The D5100 just isn't up to the task of long-term hot weather shooting.
