But we are still using filters on the sensors. A fovean type sensor with the quantum efficiency, well capacity and low read noise of a D800E would be a major step up if/when it can be done.

Imagine sensor designs so good that a small 1" C type sensor did all that an FX sensor can do today, coupled with no lag near optical output EVF's and much smaller lighter lenses for the same reach as the big exotics. Sports journalists may like that.

I'm sure the OP is right, the world in 10 years will be quite different. We may even all be sick to death of a world full of bilions of trivial images and give up photography and turn to writing or art. Who knows?
