I lost the center column hook on my smaller Gitzo tripod last year on a hike . After I ordered and received another, I decided not to take a chance on losing the new replacement. I did a little research and decided to coat a few of the threads with Loctite Blue, as Loctite Red is considered permanent and I just may want the option to remove that center column hook someday. Below, find a link to the company describing both, so you can make the decision that's best for you. Both products come in a red container.

Yes, red is considered permanent but in the hundreds of screws I have loctite'd I have never had a problem loosening Red. Have you?

YES I HAVE AND WE HAVE IN MOST CASES HAD TO APPLY HEAT. CUSTOMERS BRING IN REPAIRS AFTER USING RED ON SCREWS A BOLTS THEN BELLACKE AFTER THE SCREW UP THE HEADS OF BOLTS/SCREWS ETC.AND WE HAVE TO FIX THEIR SCREW UPS. YES WE DO CHARGE EXTRA AS WELL.
