Fantastic information! Thank you so much and for thanks for the patient explanation to my newbie self. I expect I will need to edit and clean up the negatives, they are over 100 years old and haven't been properly handled all during those years, so there's scratches and flaws that will need repair.  i will def stick with tif, but yes the space stealing 48 bit will I will change.

I have a mac so will look to find a batch processor or learn more about PS. If you recall the archive company I would love to know more. I'm finding the envelopes incredibly expensive online and would love to find something more cost efficient. That seems to be the glassine papers, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on any papers!
