I didn't say anything about the bif issue, that was the OP.  I really don't think that has anything to do with the lack of detail here.  It could be because of the resizing to post here and the original images are much sharper.  It could be that the lens is not all that sharp at the settings in use.  I could be from movement of the camera during capture.  I have no idea what the cause is, but would like to know!  If the owls had been stationary and the camera on a tripod, would the images be sharper at the same settings?  That is the issue I was addressing to Trevor and I am still curious about the answer.

I was actually quite pleased with the quality although the general degradation when posting to DPR at the moment is there .  I know the wings are a bit fuzyz but that's because I grabbed the chance when the shutter speed was set at 640 and normally I'd do it a lot faster.  As it happens I liked the way it turned out.  One othe thing I think the 120-300 is really class act for thr momny but like a lot of these lenses easing back just a little from 300 cas produce better results than maxing all of the time.
