Because it is a well built, quality camera that performs beyond the over hyped "mega pixels." I have owned 3 D2hs back in the day, and still keep 1 for old time's sake. 
Ill be honest, for family events in good light / sporting events, it is still my choice camera. I usually either put a long lens, or a fish eye on it.
Its RAW file sizes are more manageable than my D800/D3. While it has its flaws (gets noisy at ISO 800), I would choose it over a D70 or a D200 any day. 8x10s are easily printed using D2h files.

As others have said, AF speed and accuracy and built is top notch even in today's standards.

One of Nikon's best IMHO. I remember my fascination with it after upgrading from a D1h.
