Re: Recommendations for lenses for assistant photographer at weddings?

When you are the second shooter, and you don't have the pressure of capturing all the decisive moments ( = zoom ), go for a fast fixed lens for better subject isolation and flexibility in low light.

My choice would clearly be the 85mm f/1.8 AF (D or non-D). You can find them around 200-250 £ and they are extremely sharp. You will be able to catch very nice candid portraits (reactions).

A 50mm f/1.8 is a good choice as weel. It's a little bit more convenient if you have to capture the action in front of you (the 85 can be too tight for 3+ people depending on your position).

Depends on what your role will be as the "second shooter" : capture the action as well or just capture some nice portraits and details.

PS: don't worry about the distortion on the 50/1.8 g and don't worry about not having enough power on the SB-700 either.
