Actually, the OP does have a point, because in my experience the NEX cameras are pretty much unique amongst the mirrorless systems in that the prefocusing in single AF mode cannot be turned off.  Most others offer such an option if you prefer not to use it (even the EOS M, which comes with it on by default - whilst most are the other way around, offering the option to turn it on if you require it), whilst some others only prefocus in certain (other) AF modes, or even in particular settings on the exposure mode dial (Samsung for example, which forces pre AF in its more automated modes).  I don't find it a big problem for my style of shooting, though it would be nice to have the option to turn it off to extend battery life, if for no other reason.
