First, check the setup of your Windows. Turn off all the fancy effects. Set the swap file (Pagefile.sys; virtual memory file) to the same size as your physical RAM size for both lower and upper limits (same size for both).

Reboot your computer.

How long is it since you defragmented your HDD?

I only ever use the stable releases. I have used it for years on XP Pro/Home, Vista Enterprise/Home Premium, Win7 Pro/Home - 32 and 64 bit. Never had a problem yet.

Do an ANALYZE first so that you know what your starting point is.

Run the DEFRAG. Then run a FULL OPTIMISE.

Should make your laptop run a lot faster.
