Why is Linux Mint so fast?
May 31, 2013

This week I decided I like GIMP 2.8 - got used to Export instead of Save, and several new features are super useful, so I wanted to upgrade. Ubuntu 10.04 does not (easily) run GIMP 2.8.
Finally installed 64-bit Mint 13. It seems to boot and shut down in no time at all compared to Windows or Ubuntu 10.04. Is this because:

  1.     Ubuntu 12.04 is faster than 10.04
  2.     Mint 13 is faster than Ubuntu 12.04 it is based on, or
  3.     64-bit Linux is faster than 32-bit Linux?

32-bit Mint 13 is fast on my hand-me-down laptop, but it can slow to a crawl when memory is exhausted.
