Manufacture DX lenses and give them a FX focal length, instead of the equivalent?

If you took a 200mm prime and put it on an FX camera, it is 200mm because that is the measurement. If you put it on a DX camera, it is still the same measurement 200mm, the DX just crops it. It doesn't matter if you only used it on a DX camera no matter how much you crop or what size the sensor. The measurement of the lens is 200mm.

Lets say the lens is 5 inches long for an FX lens. If you put it on a DX camera, it is still 5 inches even though the camera is cropping it.

If I built a lens that was 4 inches long but it is a DX lens and crops the image down, the lens is still 4 inches long.

Does that help?
