Has anyone changed from Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 to Tamron 24-70VC?

Tried both, chose Tamron, then decided to go with a primes. Image quality aside, here is what I found:

Tamron:

  • Nikon version has the aperture miscalibration where f4.0 really means f2.8. Australian distributor refused to acknowledge the problem and was the primary reason I ditched it. As far as I know, this has not been fixed.
  • Focuses slower
  • Renders the on camera AF assist lamp useless (not sure if it is same for nikon?)
  • Reports of VR causing image blur, but I never tested this in much detail

Nikon:

  • Heavier
  • More expensive
  • No VR
