Help with Photo

This is a hand-held photo taken with a recently acquired NEX 6 and a 55-210 zoom.  I like the image, but wonder what I needed to do so that the chimp on the right was in better focus.  Is it as simple as stopping down the lens a little more (which would have required an increase in ISO or decrease in shutter speed, obviously) or is there more to it than that (e.g., improper focus point, etc.?).

Thanks.
