I think many people don't realise this is a real, impossible to correct effect that they will encounter when using that long lens they dream of owning. I strike it all the time with long lenses, since I'm often shooting over water. Also, although we generally have very clear air, airborne salt and spray can be a real issue, even many km from the coast.
