I find it hard to believe you have outgrown the capabilities of the D700.  I use mine as a complement to my D800 and the image quality from the D700 still amazes me.

That could be the way to go... but while I'm typing this I'm thinking or D600 and then I'm back, oh limited distribution of AF points, so back to 800 ... and then thinking: oh no file size! The balance is off. I wonder why Nikon didn't just bring out one super fast and lower res camera (say the D600 with appropriate AF points distribution) and another slower but high res (the D800 actually fits that) ...

I'd be happy to pay D800 price for a camera that has lower resolution and is faster. Basically a D600 sensor in a D800 body.

The most obvious where I am outgrowing the D700 is video...
