AFAIK, JPEGs are limited to 8-bit color depth (I have never seen a 16-bit JPEG being mentioned anywhere and saving a 16-bit image as JPEG in Photoshop results in an 8-bit image with no option to keep the higher bit-depth).

Which makes using jpegs when using a wider gamut color space suboptimal. But suboptimal is obviously not the same as impossible.
