D800 is a superb camera. I doubt it is inferior to the 5D3 in virtually any way and superior in most. 5D3 is an outdated sensor that has been tarted up for one more model.  I use my D800E for low light -its superb, low noise high sensitivity. AF is super fast. If 5D3 is faster it would be meanlingless as 800E is as fast as I would ever need. I see 5D3 similar night shots and they are no better at all.

Other factors become more dominant than high ISO noise, like sharpness, dynamic range and the lens used.

I can't fault the camera. As far as large file size goes this is also nonsense for most users. If you are a pro it may come into it but I find View NX2 software about a million times faster than Lightroom so small files in Lightroom is crawlingly slow and large files in NX2 fast. So no problem there.
