The new normal.
May 21, 2013

This has bothered me for some time. I am a great one for looking at new equipment and considering whether it would add to my photography enjoyment. For the longest time the new equipment has been coming out with the "new normal" fixed  lens, equivalent to 35mm. Now mind you, I have nothing against 35mm and use it when the image calls for a wider area than my 50mm. I just cannot see why any manufacturer is trying to sell us the load of goods that 35mm is that "normal" lens, when doing portraits it distorts and  in general takes you farther away from the subject, requiring more cropping. What prompted this "mini-rant" was seeing the Nikon "Coolpix A" which appears to be a solidly build digicam, with a fixed 28mm. I know I am part of a minority, but it just won't do for my photography and I just do not understand it. There is a reason that 50mm or its equivqlent was chosen so very long ago.VRR
