AF-S 80-400 , close up test.
May 20, 2013

This is a Three-tailed tiger Swallowtail.

A real world test for the new AF-S 80-400.  I was so close that could not frame at 400mm, this pictures is at 270mm ...just 6ft from the butterfly.

Lens was fully open, ISO 140 and 1/250". Handheld, VR ON.

And a 100% crop.....very small details can de observed....close to 1/1000" resolution....those hairs in the upper central area are thinner than a human hair....and the small dots in the bottom are very small and separated by only some pixels in some cases....

Good enough for me.......I also have the 300mm f/4 and I know it could be a little better but only at 100%... and using tripod or at least monopod and higher speeds.....

Test result: Very good resolution at close range....effective VR and very good IQ at f/5.6
