I know this is an old thread revived for no apparent reason but I've never powered down a camera to change lenses... ever. seems ridiculous to have to frankly at least on SLR's Why would anyone think they would have to? in fact most cameras have a message that comes on the screen telling you to attach a lens which to me means they were designed this way.

I've always done the opposite, but for me it's just my own superstition thinking that static charge will suck up dust which I know is not true but now it's just become habit. I didn't read this whole thread but in any event I suspect the OP's camera crapped out for an entirely unrelated reason and it was just coincidence that they were changing lenses around the time it occurred but with electronics who's to say one way or the other.
