Alternatives to Adobe creative suite or photoshop/Lightroom...
May 15, 2013

List of some alternatives possible for Adobe's creative suite and Lightroom.

I tested some programs myself and came up with a list of useful substitutes for some of the creative suites' programs.

People are free to chime in and post other alternatives for me or other people to try!!!

Adobe photoshop:

Very capable but needs getting used to. Missing some features. Also 8 bit only as of now. 16 bit comming soon. It's free!!!

Very capable editor. Missing good clone tool. Not too expensive. Value for money.

Photo ninja

Very capable raw editor. Some say it has the best raw conversion of the industry at the monet. Very natural looking images with lots of detail. In the pricerange of Lightroom though.

Corel Aftershot pro

Another popular raw editor. Cheaper then some others.

Another popular and capable editor.

digiKam is an advanced digital photo management application for Linux, Windows, and Mac-OSX.

It's free!!!

Another great raw editor. It's free

ACDsee has a couple of versions. It's a capable raw editor. There is a free version and the PRO version is a paid version. It's fast.

Inexpensive raw editor.

Support for Linux, Apple OS X, windows:

Has Lightroom import! it's free!

very capable vector editor with a lot of features and this is the only one i came across that can edit AI files the same way as Adobe Illustrator does. I did not test plug-in capability though. It's free!!!

While very capable, it is not able to edit the imported AI files the way you can do either in Illustrator or Inkscape! You'd be crippled and have to do a lot of stuff over again. Cost quite a bit for the whole coreldraw suite.

I feel it's not as solid as Indesign, but it will get you there if you really need a page layout editor.

It's free!!!

Offcourse a very capable page layout editor. Was the defacto standard before Indesign. Unfortunately this company drove us all into the hands of Adobe's Indesign because it was better. Very expensive!

For audio:

Audicity is a very capable sound editor. Totally FREE and very popular.

Pdf-xchange is a capable pdf editor. Reletively inexpensive.
