Monopods are more for sports shooters who need to get up and down or move a lot. Usually you don't trek into the wild with them. If you're going to carry something in the wild, might as well be a tripod. The problem with using monopods as walking sticks is the leg fasteners can take only so many pounds before they start sliding. It's kind of abusing the equipment. It's just not what they're made for.
