First flash: TTL or not?
May 13, 2013

Hi guys,

I am thinking about purchasing my first flash, and don't know whether I should buy a flash with TTL or not.

Here are my current options:

  1. I can buy a Metz 44 AF-1 for 131€. This flash supports TTL, but the manual mode seems restritive (1/1, 1/2, 1/8, 1/64) compared to other models. Will the lack of extented manual options be a problem, or can I circumvent this one way or another?
  2. I can buy two second hand Yongnuo YN460 for 60€. Their manual more is mode complete, but they lack TTL support.

In any case, I will probably end up buying wireless triggers as well. Considering it would be my first flash(es), what option would you advise me to go for?

FYI, I have a Metz 45 CT1 at hand (serial number < 534.000), but as you guys probably know, their high voltage is a problem on modern DSLR. It is working though.

This question has not been answered yet.
