My XF1 - Impressions and Some Images ...
May 13, 2013

... I'm impressed !!

Haven't even had the camera for 24 hours but put about 250 images through it.

Some initial thoughts and not in any particular order.

  • Focus speed is fast but I have missed a few shots when using Macro.
  • Write time is good (similar to X-E1) but HS50 EXR is faster.
  • Images are sharp and very clean even at ISO 1600.
  • Colour is accurate (Astia).
  • There is some slight colour bleed with Raw files when using ACR/LR so have to watch the colour noise sliders carefully. Jpegs seem OK. See here - Raw Colour Bleed.
  • Camera is very well balanced and very easy to handle. It has a tiny thumb grip at the back top right but it works well. Some have reported it is 'slippery' but I don't find that. Even when sweating in the heat here.

Only slight negatives so far.

  • Dial around the four way controller is very easy to move.
  • LCD is better than those I have used prior but still a little difficult to see in bright light.
  • I have experienced 'Protected Card' warning a few times irrespective of which card I am using. The only way to clear the warning is to turn off/on/off/on, etc. I suspect I may have a faulty unit but we'll see.

If you have ever owned an F200 EXR and are looking for a realistic upgrade - Look no further. Brilliant IQ, minimal noise and very crisp lens with f1.8 wide open.

Some images in the next post.
