d800 metering definite step baxkwards

This biased towards the af sensor used to meter and determine exposure even in matrix is just dumb! I know the fanboys will rush in here but just try shooting a scene where you have a subject lit on side of thier face (short lit) by strong sunlight and place the sensor over an eye. Blown highlights by a mile every time. This camera has no care for protection of hightlights like the 700 did. If i wanted spot metering i'd select it. Yes i can shoot manual but still, the meter is a step backwards for sure imo. Anyone else hate this? Love this camera but also hate several things about it too!
