I was trying to convey that the lens without TC does n better job than the other with Tc. If your opinion is different ok I don't want to get into long discussions you like what you see or you don't. You lose the wide end with the  TC on the 70-200 and the one stop is not so much for DOF if the subject is at a distance. As far as centre and edge sharpness the subjects usually only occupy the centre of the picture unless very close and then you need the wider 70 mm. I have a few lenses all L's and I was just amazed at how good this lens is and for half the cost of the 70-200 it is worth considering the lens for this purpose. I love my 70-200 for taking pictures of the children outdoors it gives a quality to the pictures that I love. The lenses are all good but for safari I would rather go with 70-300L without TC than a 100-400 with the extra reach and definitely not with A TC. The loss of quality is to great a price for me and to put a TC on in the field when you compromise for quality sake by only using the TC for the shots where you need the extra reach is risky. There is always a lot of dust in the air when on safari. The 70-300 on a crop camera has enough reach. You always find situations where you wish for more reach but the versatility is great.
