It was inevitable that some company would try this model sooner or later, given the fact that one way or another, computer connection to the internet is near ubiquitous. This creates the possibility of either running your program remotely or at least unlocking it remotely.

This financial model of low entry price barrier but continous payment is going to become the model for software because every company knows that the public are tempted in by low initial prices but let subscription payments drag on too long. If Adobe's profits don't completely plunge, every other big software developer that hasn't got on the bandwagon yet is going to be falling over themselves in the rush to join in.

Formerly software crackers and pirates were a special underground "scene" but now they could be treated like heroes.
