How dealing with slow shutter speed (max 1/160) using flash on my E-PL1?

I like shooting on the beach and in sunny days sometimes, shooting portraits with an Helios lens. I also have a ND filter ( I was lucky to find and Helios filter too!) and I add it to the lens (even if I don't like using filter much)

Sometimes I want to add a flash (flill-in or even 1/64) to eliminate shadows on face, BUT the slow speed of the flash (1/160 max) overexposes  the photo too much, even shooting at ISO 100-160.

Any suggestion for shooting portraits in sunny days with flash?

Or how can I remove shadows from face shooting portraits without using flash? Only PP?
