Re: Main Frames
In reply to Prstl2, May 7, 2013

I remember a time when we used "dumb" terminals hooked to a "main frame".  I also remember problems with terminals going down  ...  and problems with the main frame.  I suppose, we have come full circle with "cloud computing".  I use ACDsee Pro 6 as my cataloging software and CS6 for editing.  In the last couple of years, "GIMP":  http://www.gimp.org/  has come a long ways in terms of functionality and tutorial support.  If this is the route Adobe wants to go   ...  I will retrain on GIMP and kiss Adobe off, (and I have been using Photoshop since version 2, upgrading each and every time).

This whole "cloud computing" movement is a significant shift in business software models:  a reaction, no doubt to pirating and the complete cost reversal between software and hardware, (I can remember buying a 5 meg hard drive for $1,500.00)   ...   and stand alone "Peachtree Accounting Software" for $150.00.  Peachtree now costs $500.00  ...  for a license on one computer   ...  and a 16gig thumb drive cost $9.99.
