At 20+ MP, RAW vs JPG revisited
May 5, 2013

As more and more cameras offer 20+ MP images, I'm wondering if the RAW advantages over JPGs are diminishing.

Because -- for most of us amateurs -- our output is 8"x12" or smaller pictures. For prints, for web posting and viewing.

Does this mean that we can just reduce that original 20+ MP image -- after editing, lets's say at 50% -- to gain the same smooth JPG that the RAW editor would produce? A smooth JPG without banding or 'spikes'?

In other words, does a massive image reduction do pretty much the same thing as RAW processing?

Am assuming that when editing the JPG, before reduction, I can still get what I need out of the shadows, all that... or close enough.
