SB910 flashes cause Backfocusing - another Nikon concern ? - see examples.
May 5, 2013

Hi,

Many portraits taken with the new SB910 on the D800 appear to be unsharp. I decided to experiment to see if it was the D800 or the SB910 or maybe all SB flashes used on the D800 and maybe the same used on the D700, D600 and even the new D7100.

Used:     85mm f1.4G + D800 + SB910 .

Focused on the word  'hama'.

aperture used:      f1.4

SB910 AF-Assist setting :       ON - for first shot       OFF - for second shot

The results show that Backfocusing occurs when the AF-Assist on the SB910 is switched to ON.

- Does the same apply to the other SB flashes used on the D800 and other FX cameras ?

- Have any Wedding / Portrait photographers experienced backfocusing when using any of the SB flashes as they often have to shoot in the dark ?

Thanks,

Adrian
