Forgive me if this has already been discussed. I have a D7000 (16mpx), and a lot of my photography is with a 300mm lens, and involves fairly heavy crops in post, e.g. Birds in the centre of the frame. Given the same lens, distance, aperture etc., would the 24mpx of the D7100 allow for a bigger crop without losing image quality?

Thanks,

there are many factors that effect how much of additional pixels will improve IQ. The high pixel density means high quality lenses will be needed to achieve maximum resolution and aperture will also effect this., handholding will also require faster shutter speeds.

how the two cameras react to high iso images will also be relevant, although i have not looked at this for either camera.
