As you imply, Andrew, why would anyone want to zoom with a wide angle accessory lens? The LX3 and LX5 had a Conversion Mode setting for use when the auxiliary lens was used.

Shots of brick walls are a convenient way to assess the extent of distortion produced with different lenses at different settings, and thereby to obtain the PP settings to correct shots of subjects in which the extent of distortion are less easy to discern.
