You forget that there is literally no reason to require a $125 intervalometer accessory when it could be added in firmware for free. Well, no reason that doesn't involve trying to milk your customers out of $125.

Would  you rather have paid $125 more for the camera with an included intervalometer, or pay what you did and add the intervalometer as an option IF you decide you need it??

Canon does this to appeal to a wider range of potential consumers.

Why do you think Microsoft as Windows 7, standard, home, home premium, and ultimate (and whatever other versions)???

It's all about the money and how to market the product to the widest audience of consumers.  They have to offer dumbed down versions for folks who would not buy otherwise, but they always have premium versions to suck as much money as they can out of the rest of us.

The majority of consumers would never use (or be willing to pay for) the added option of an intervalometer.  So Canon holds the price down and offers it as an accessory.

It's just normal business, plain and simple.  Get used to it because it's always been that way and it's never going to change.
