Strobing my Whippet with a home-made Strip Light

I decided to make a strip light out of PVC pipe, and decided to test it while photographing my dog.  I think it provides pretty soft light, and a nice catchlight in her eye.  What do you guys think?

Settings were 1/50 sec, F/8, ISO 800, Flash at 1/16th.  Striplight was placed above at about a 30 degree angle.  Shot on my D5100 with a 50mm 1.8g.

This was the plan that I used, but I substituted PVC pipe instead of cardboard.
