X-Trans Is A Winner In The X20 - comparison pics with X10

OK, the noise from the X20's sensor is horrendous, but the highly detailed output does it for me.

I did not realise that the X10 was as bad as it is, both in resolution and noise smearing, even when processing from RAW.  I wondered why DPR and I-R's test images were so soft: now I know why.

First, the full size images, processed from RAW.

X20

ISO100 L size, NR increased in Silkypix but still noisy!

Next, X10:

X10 L size RAW, ISO100. Sharpening increased, NR reduced

I did not attempt  to match colour in these two.  They were processed for maximum detail and minimum noise.

For those who can't open them full size to compare, here are 100% crops from the major detail areas:

At this stage I never need 12MP images - they are always reduced (even from my D700) to at least 66% or less of full size, at which point the excessive noise in the X20 is not noticed.  The detail remains, thankfully.

Who would have thought it?  I didn't.
