The tripod socket is made to hold the camera on top of a tripod head.  To leverage the bottom of a heavy camera is asking for trouble.  Can't beat my op/tech shoulder strap for safe carrying of an expensive camera.  Holding a camera by a strap attached to the socket is not the way to go.  I'm glad your d4 wasn't dropped to the ground.
