Nikon's challenge is to get the EVF to report each frame of an 8fps burst as it happens, so the sports shooter can follow his subject.

For me, an 8fps burst EVF would be adequate with a silent shutter.

Rags this is not true.  The solution is you start your burst by depressing the shutter button on the V1 and keep holding it down.  No frames are displayed back on the EVF until you release the shutter button.  So don't release the shutter button until you are finished tracking the subject.
