I always use factory battery. Too many incidents of lithium ion battery blowing up.

B&H or Adorama both have cheap factory Sony batteries.

Are you saying you've personally had Lithium Ion battery explode, or just in general Lithium Ion's can explode?

Sony controls the price of their stuff pretty strictly, if you're getting a "cheap" battery it most likely isn't factory Sony.

My rule of thumb is if I only plan on getting 1 extra battery, I'll go ahead and spring for the Sony factory battery. I figure I'll be using that specific battery a lot more often so its worth it for the better quality, capacity, reliablity. But, if I'm planning on buying 2 or more, I'll get an off-brand for a lot cheaper.

Battery is $37 from Adorama and B&H versus $79 from Sony Store Online. Yes it's still more expensive than $10 ebay battery but I'd rather not void my warranty with an aftermarket battery.

And who said those are not the same $10 batteries simply relabeled? If even Amazon was selling knockoffs, I wouldn't hold my breath about others.

Got one from B&H yesterday.  Sony seal, Sony warranty, made in Japan, exact match to the one that came with the camera. NP-FW50 $37.48. Aren't they an authorized dealer?
