Re: What should be done with cheats ? Part 5 :-(

The “Out and Proud: LGB Portraits” challenge http://www.dpreview.com/challenges/Challenge.aspx?ID=8069 has just ended.   The challenge attracted ten entries.  The first three places were taken by entries from DPR Member “GNapp Studios”, who are proven cheaters - see http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/51342731 and succeeding posts.   Two other distinct ‘members’ entered the challenge and, of course, took all the remaining places.

GNap Studios is a commercial endeavour – see their website at http://www.modelmayhem.com/653557  where they advertise their prowess as photographers by referring to the number of ‘DPR awards ’they have ‘won’.   They have just added three more ‘awards’ to this list!

Unless they have DPR’s ‘expess written consent’ it appears to me that they are in breach of DPR’s terms of use, as follows, inasmuch as they are ‘exploiting the service’ for the purposes of commercially advertising their ‘prowess’ as photographers.    In the light of what Tasad has discovered, they are, of course, deceiving their clients by implying that they fairly and squarely ‘won awards’ (i.e. something of value) for achieving top places in challenges.

I’d be very surprised if the member accounts identified by Tasad (good work!) and notified to DPR are not closed.

This brings me much closer to walking away from DPR!
