Florida Spring Birding (55-210+DH1758)
Apr 22, 2013

A few more from my spring birding outings with the NEX-5N and 55-210+Dh1758 combo, just to stay current.  As with the last post, the swamps are starting to fill with more of the shorebirds as the waters get shallower, and more spring migrators start to pass through.  Here are some shots from last week:

The pretty little least tern - waiting for his mom to return with food

Here she is...but alas, no food!

The male red-winged blackbird, who looks like his name

OK - what's he doing out here?!  This one is a pet, of another local birder who brings his green-winged macaw with him to see the scenery

Black-necked stilts are just starting to nest in the shallows

Green iguana, hanging out in some tree branches

Super-duper closeup with a double-crested cormorant - these guys will sit there and let you walk right up and pet them - yet they're wild birds!  I had to back up to minimum focus distance to shoot him

A young cattle egret awaits mom's return to the nest

This juvenile great blue heron was screaming at mom, to the right, for not having brought back any food to the nest

Another young heron, standing up in the nest to learn how to stand on those stilts of his

As always, comments, questions, and critique welcomed.  Hope you enjoyed a look at some Florida spring birding.
