I find stacking shots gives better definition when upsampling an image from a tight crop. No reason to do it, just another method to try.

I don't do a lot of astro imaging, but my understanding of stacking for this purpose is that it helps to remove some of the effect of atmospheric turbulence ("poor seeing") that can blur some detail.
