How badly is this photo breaking the rules?

Well the number of responders to your post suggest your image has engaged with people. I didn't like any of the earlier edits that complied with 'rules'. Keep the slightly skewed horizon, I think it works, it's not a landscape in the traditional sense. The centre framing of the 'horizon' works too in my opinion. I do think the foreground could be lightened a bit, you could get rid of the two black triangles, maybe slightly sharper and or contrasty, or even shoot a series and get some more dynamic poses,  there's always areas that can be improved in every photo. It's a good one and you should be commended for being able to see the intangible qualities of the image and ignoring the textbook structure that sets out the basic rules of composition.
