Migration assistant question
Apr 20, 2013

My wife's six year old iMac decided to die this week so I have a refurb 21" on its way to replace it. For years I have diligently backed up all of our computers using SuperDuper and in this case I have a FW400 backup drive with a very recent backup, plus a not as recent remotely stored backup FW800 drive. I plan to purchase a thunderbolt to FW adapter and FW400-800 cable to connect the FW400 backup to the new iMac and use migration assistant. Has anybody here accomplished this successfully? I have read a few confusing articles on line suggesting that this may take a very long time and possibly hang at the last stages. I have used migration assistant successfully in the past but always computer to computer, never from a backup. Any advise here would be greatly apprecaited. The dead computer was running an up to date version of Lion and the new one will be running Mountain Lion.
