Of course the 35/1.4 on FF is a different league of DOF control entirely, it would take a 22mm f0.9 to match it on APS-C.

I remember the days when the main reason we chose a fast lens was for the additional shutter speeds we could gain for low light shooting. The difference in cost in buying a body with the 50mm f1.8(or f2) was significant compared to the 50 f1.4 and the few manufacturers that offered an f 1.2 lens priced them at fantasy levels (for our income at the time). The DOF was only the most peripheral of conversations and was usually referenced in discussions of lenses such as the 85 f1.8 and the 135 f 2.8. In super tells, the narrow DOF was a mixed bag. Great for isolation when needed, a curse for sharpness when moving quickly.

I think a 85-135/2 zoom that is FF compatible is closer to reality.

If that is true, I would be delighted to own it but will have to add the cost of gym membership to my total cost of ownership.
