Depends.

If you want soft lighting, a softbox such as the lastolite ezbox 24"X24" placed on a light stand directly over your head directly facing your subject while it being at their head level while keeping a reflector on the lightstands legs for fill will look best forĀ flattering butterfly lighting portraits.

For more contrasty lighting use no modifiers or a smaller modifier.
