Carbon fiber is for simple shapes...

Because the strength of carbon fiber comes from having the fiber under tension with the resin under compression. Easy to do in a tube, a rod, a bar, or a hoop. Hard to do in a shape as complex as a camera body.

Then there's the problem of fasteners. You can't really drill and tap holes in it, so you glue it (lousy for repairs) or clamp around it (bulky and ugly).

There are fiber-filled castable resins. They don't have the strength of tensioned fiber, and the dust can be deadly (both when prepping the mix, and later in machining).
