If you take an acetylene torch to your camera for about 30 minutes, you could probably get it to ignite.

Consider it a feature - if your plane crash lands on a remote island, you can take your pen knife, scrape off some magnesium shavings and use the battery to ignite the shavings (wouldn't need the torch in this case).

Those Nikon engineers are clever.  Just like the Volkswagen folks....
