The problem with creative borders...

is that they are a gimmick.   They are applied mechanically, without reference to the content of the photo and what you are trying to communicate as an artist.   They draw attention to themselves, while they do nothing to strengthen what you are trying to communicate.   The border you chose is particularly toxic because it has, in some cases, more detail than much of your images.   So they steal attention away from the image, and also draw attention to the fact that you are crushing  your blacks.

There are many other gimmicks, and they all have the same general kind of problems.
