Life is contingent

It's never completely safe to buy any camera.

My D3s died twice, my D800 died once, My D4 lost its CF card slot on day 2.

Nikon repair has been a horror for me, and many others, to deal with.

However, you do have an adequate backup in the D7000, should your new body ever by stuck in repair purgatory.

I would say your best bet, for safety, might be the D800 or D4.  But really, you should buy the camera that best fits you requirements.

As they say on Game of Thrones, "The night is dark and full of terrors."  But we still need to live and photograph.
